Fears/ Phobias

A phobia is an irrational, intense and overwhelming fear of a place, situation, object or animal.

There are more than 400 documented phobias but the list is unlimited and you can develop a phobia of virtually anything.

Phobias are more prominent than fears, creating a deep sense of dread and sometimes panic. A phobia is when a person has an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger about a situation or object, which in reality poses little to no real danger. Some common phobias include fear of water, heights, flying, spiders, dogs, needles and motorway driving.

If phobias become very severe, a person will try and avoid the thing that’s causing the fear by organising their life around that fear. Phobias are not always triggered by actual events or objects but can also be triggered by imagined events.

When we encounter a situation or the object of fear, then the fight or flight response gets activated. The more often we experience a phobic response, the stronger the phobia gets.

Fortunately, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help most simple phobias within 3-4 sessions. However, more complex phobias, such as agoraphobia, claustrophobia or emetophobia, require more sessions. These kinds of phobias are generally experienced when a person has a high level of stress and anxiety in their life. So using talking therapy and trance we would work together to reduce your anxiety and stress levels. Once your anxiety levels are reduced to a sufficient level, we could then start to resolve your phobia.
